Spice mas (Carnival) is an annual event that we celebrate in august.
It is a colorful and exuberant display of superb costumes all hand made throughout the year.
We also celebrate the steel pan.
There isn’t anything more caribbean than the carnival.
In the countryside parishes we have characters that follow the stories and history of this event.
Pictured is the Shortknee.
This mask wearing character is an icon of Grenadian carnival. He wears brightly colored fabric to his knees and bells on his ankles with several mirrors that act as talisman to protect from his enemy.
Look out for the short knee this spicemas armed with his powder.
Great fun!
